percussion mallet instruments

Should i be in drumline or pit?
I am a freshman soon to be sophomore next year and i don’t know what instrument to play. I have been playing xylophone for about as long as normal percussion, but i specialize in pit. However, i play tenors for our indoor percussion ensemble. Our drumline wants me to play tenors for marching season, however, i really enjoy pit and the girl that i love is also in pit. The only problem is, there is only one other tenor player and i don’t know if it would be best for the band if i played tenor. please help. i am equally very talented in both and each party is really pushing for me to join their group. i don’t want to abandon the pit, because there is only one other good mallet player who is also the girl i love, but there is also only one other good tenor player. Any past experience on the subject would be helpful, particularly from any high school band directors who would rather have a good pit player than tenor player or vice-versa. Thanks.
