How can I get MIDI music files to play properly on Windows Vista?
I know midis aren’t unversally compatible or anything, but I’ve had almost no problems on any of my old PCs, be they 98 or XP. Nearly every song would work. On Vista however, a lot of the synth is being lost and songs come out with nothing but percussion in some cases. This happens regardless of whether I’m using Winamp, Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic… I recently installed DirectX 10 to see if that would solve anything, but it doesn’t help. What other free options do I have such as DXi upgrades, or alternative MIDI-playing programs that use their own synth and not Windows’ built in one? I can’t seem to find anything but massively outdated or taken down files, usually shareware or purchase-only programs that don’t sound like they’ll help me in the least.
That’s your problem. It’s Windows Vista. Reinstall Windows XP.
